In patients with Parkinson’s disease, the circadian rhythm may become disturbed, which is thought to contribute to depression and sleep disturbances. Light therapy restores the circadian rhythm and is therefore an interesting treatment option for Parkinson patients with these complaints. The article provides an overview of the scientific evidence for light therapy in Parkinson’s disease. Due to conflicting research findings, light therapy cannot currently be recommended for depression in Parkinson’s.
