It has been a busy few weeks for Petersen, after deciding to finally compete in his very last fight, his first match is tomorrow.
RegiosportVeenendaal.nl spoke to the Veenendaler who is of course now in Dubai: "I feel very good. Last week I was already living in the rhythm of Dubai in the Netherlands. With the help of the PROPEAQ light glasses I went to bed between 19:30 and 20:00 and got up at 03:30. So when I arrived in Dubai I was immediately in the rhythm and fit. The training sessions here went great. I'm looking forward to it," says the Veenendaler.
SKILLS He is not alone here, but together with a team consisting of five athletes (besides Petersen two men and two women), his two coaches and the team manager. His draw for tomorrow is not yet known: "I never look at that either. So I don't know who I'm fighting in the first round. I am well prepared and confident in my skills. This way I can focus well on my goal, which is to play my best game."
Relax in the shade, have lunch, take a power nap, listen to music and read a book.
POWERNAP The karateka's daily schedule is one to be jealous of: "This morning was the weigh-in. So in the morning I went to the sauna to sweat off the last half kilo. Then on to the weigh-in and then breakfast. After breakfast I lay down in bed for a while and then training. On edge. So briefly and just to get the right feeling. Then I relaxed in the shade at the hotel pool, had lunch, a power nap, listened to music and read a book. And the rest of the afternoon/evening was all about recharging and saving energy."
He will start his first fight on Tuesday at 13:30 (Dutch time): "I am positive in all respects. I am really looking forward to this World Championship." However, Petersen is also looking forward to the end of this adventure: "I am also looking forward to starting a new phase in my life back in the Netherlands next week. To start with, a more relaxed time with my family."
